You can even visit the famous area for yourself. After your distillery tour, be sure to check out the Cooper Cave Spring trail. We invite you to enjoy the natural resources we are working to preserve for all generations to come. Unlike some counties, all visitors of legal drinking age can taste, as well as purchase, Short Mountain’s small batch artisanal moonshine.

Short Mountain Distillery Tours

Short Mountain has a long and celebrated history as the producer of some of the finest moonshine in the entire country. Like a closer look? For a birdseye view of the manufacturing process of our authentic Tennessee moonshine, check out the distillery tours at Short Mountain Distillery. We love sharing about our organic permaculture farm practices with all our guests. You’ll also learn about local history, as well as our heritage of whiskey making here in Cannon County.
Boon to Local Farming
There were 18 legal distilleries operating in Cannon County after the end of the Civil War. The distilleries provided added value to surplus crops, contributing greatly to the vitality of the local agricultural framework.
Prohibition
With Prohibition in 1920, the relationship between farming and distilleries was shattered. Nonetheless, the heritage of whiskey making lived on. The cave spring at Short Mountain became a refuge for those who sought to continue the craft during this time, namely famous Moonshiners like Cooper Melton. It is said that Mr Melton used our farm’s cave spring to make the moonshine that supplied the speakeasies of Al Capone.

There’s something extra special brewing at Short Mountain Farm! Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 23rd, 2016, when The Curious Kitchen of Murfreesboro pairs up with Short Mountain Distillery for an unforgettable night.

Farm-to-Table Fresh
As the region’s favorite source for premium cooking classes, The Curious Kitchen doesn’t disappoint - and neither will this unique event. With an eight course menu tasting featuring the kind of rustic elegance Short Mountain is famous for, you won’t want to miss out on these Farm-to-Table fresh dishes. In addition, the evening includes an exclusive tour of Short Mountain Distillery followed by Cocktail Hour and live music while enjoying the breathtaking beauty of one of Nashville’s favorite mini-escapes.

The Schedule
Distillery Tours will take place between 5:00 & 5:30 p.m., followed by Cocktails at 6:00 p.m. Course presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person, and may be purchased by clicking HERE, or via:

It’s Time to Shine


It’s Time to Shine!
Spring is coming to Short Mountain, and we couldn’t be happier. So long snow, it’s time to Shine! And time to roll out some of our favorite refreshers made with Short Mountain Shine. According to you, Shine is one of your favorites too! So go ahead, pick up a bottle (or three), and plan to soak up all the beautiful springtime sun “Shine” that’s just up ahead, just a bit around the bend. Friends, we look forward to seeing you again.
“How to Shine” with Short Mountain Shine
Our Shine goes well with everything! Here are a couple of recipes for spring. Remember, come to the distillery, or check back online as we are always updating our favorite ways on #HowtoShine.

SPRING WATER
  • 1 ¼ ounce Short Mountain Moonshine
  • 4 ounces Sun Drop Soda
  • Fresh Lemon Slice for garnish


SHINE & TONIC
  • 1 ¼ ounce Short Mountain Moonshine
  • 4 ounces Tonic water
  • Fresh Lime Slice for garnish

Hot Chocolate Kisses
Ummmmmm, hot chocolate. There’s nothing more soothing on a cold, snowy, wintry day. Or is there? How about a steaming cup of gourmet cocoa, kissed with the most incredible artisanal small batch Tennessee moonshine you’ve ever experienced? Now that oughtta warm you up! Stillhouse Restaurant Reopens February 4th









A Favorite Hidden Gem
Home to one of our favorite hidden gems in all of the land, it’s not unusual for us to feel the beckoning of Woodbury’s rustic woods, beckoning us back. Why Woodbury, you ask? Well, if you’d ever visited the local treasure tucked into those rolling hills (stretched across 300 acres of  farmland and wooded groves), you would understand.

Stillhouse Restaurant
Early last year, The Stillhouse Restaurant was born,  just a bit across from Short Mountain Distillery. Since then, a wonderful marriage of new and old has emerged. It’s infused in literally everything they do. Like the Distillery before them, The Stillhouse has crafted a highly evocative aesthetic with their creative offerings.

Locally Sourced, Farm-to-Table Dishes
Their commitment to designing a menu around local, seasonal, farm-to-table dishes represents the very best in modern dining trends. Yet, this simple, elegant approach delivers a wholesome excellence that hearkens back to yesterday - as do the classic Southern dishes that round out the menu at The Stillhouse.

Southern Classics
Such favorites as Fried Pickled Okra, White Beans & Ham and Shrimp & Grits have garnered the restaurant quite a following of devoted fans. Of course, we can’t bear to leave out the hormone and antibiotic-free, grass fed, 12 oz. Braveheart Black Angus Ribeye, seared and grilled to perfection. There’s truly something to satisfy every taste at The Stillhouse.


Stillhouse Restaurant Reopens February 4th
In preparation for their next great year in business, The Stillhouse took a short renovation break at the start of the year. They reopen for business on February 4th, so mark your calendars. While you’re at it,  call ahead for Valentine’s Day reservations!
Escape to the Country
Less than an hour away from Nashville, The Stillhouse Restaurant is one of our favorite reasons  to “escape to the country”. Looking for someplace special for a relaxing, romantic dinner? Perfect.  Need gluten-free or vegan options? No problem. Looking for a great new spot for lunch? You can choose from their outstanding menu, or opt for the daily fresh-made soup and salad bar. After lunch, head over for a leisurely tour of their award-winning Short Mountain Distillery. And whatever you do, don’t forget, The Stillhouse regularly hosts some of this region’s finest musicians.
